Cure of Urticaria (Hives) with Homeopathy

Urticaria, also known as hives, is a very common clinical condition. It commonly looks like “ant bite” with raised red skin eruptions. Commonly called Chhapaki or Chakkatey by Hindi speaking patients. Many patients and attendants worry about the contagiousness of the disease. Urticaria is non contagious and no one can catch it from urticaria patient.

Pathology: Urticaria occurs when the body reacts to an allergen and releases histamine and other chemicals from under the surface of the skin. The histamine and chemicals cause inflammation and fluid to accumulate under the skin, causing wheals.

Symptoms:

• Swellings, known as wheals/hives, appear as a rash on the skin. They are usually pink or red, with an oval or round shape.
• They are of size of a few millimeters to several inches across.
• They are extremely itchy, and there is redness around it.
• Urticaria causes severe itching and burning sensation (or heat coming out) in the lesions.
• The wheals usually comes in batches, frequently on the face or the extremities, including the arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, and toes.
• They normally disappear within 24 hours, usually within few minutes but new ones keep on forming. They can appear on just one part of the body, or on several parts.
• In some cases, hives can continue for several days. People with chronic hives can have symptoms for months or years.

Chronic Urticaria: The condition is considered chronic urticaria if the urticaria appears for more than six weeks and recur frequently over months or years. Often, the cause of chronic hives is not clear, though many patients are able to point out specific causes like weather conditions, sun exposure etc. Chronic hives can be very uncomfortable and interfere with sleep and daily activities. For many people, anti-allergy medicine provide relief.

Acute urticaria-appear suddenly and clear up soon i.e less than 6 weeks. Often due to: Viral infection, Food / drug allergy, adverse drug reaction, (opioids/NSAIDs) etc.

Physical Urticaria (non-allergic hives from environmental triggers)

1. Scratching/rubbing (dermotagraphic urticaria)
2. Pressure/tight clothes (pressure urticaria)
3. Sweating/increased temperature (cholinergic urticaria)
4. Cold exposure, ice (cold urticaria)
5. Swelling from vibration (vibration induced angioedema)
6. Sunlight (solar urticaria) 
7. Water (aquagenic urticarial

Dietary Restrictions:

1. Many urticaria patients are found to be improved after leaving non vegetarian food.
2. Patients are told to avoid anything which, they think , may induces or aggravates the urticarial eruptions.
3. Patients are also told to avoid nuts , dry fruits, non vegetarian food, peanuts etc

Homeopathic Treatment:

For treatment of urticaria, the patient must consult a qualified homeopath so that specific treatment plan can be given to the patient. Apart from constitutional treatment (i.e patient specific treatment), the following medicines are found to be useful in treating urticaria:

1. Antimonium crudum: Urticaria, white with red areola, itching fearfully. Itching when warm in bed.
2. Bovista: Urticaria covering the whole body with diarrhoea or metrorrhagia.
3. Dulcamara: Urticaria ameliorated by cold.
4. Natrum mur: Hives, white aggravated by exertion.
5. Urticaria urens: Hives elevated with rheumatism, after shell fish with pinworms.

Homeopathy Point case study: Cured case of Urticaria

Case 1: Male patient, aged around 10 years, was suffering from urticaria for last 2 years. Even after long allopathic treatment, the new episodes of eruptions kept on appearing on different parts of the body. After thorough diagnosis and case taking, patient was prescribed constitutional treatment (i.e homeopathic patient specific treatment). He was given Dulcamara 10 m. The eruptions stopped appearing in the first week of treatment itself.

Case 2: A middle aged female complained of recurrent attacks of urticaria everyday since 10 years. She was on daily multi anti allergic medicines. She was advised by her dermatologist that nothing more for her by allopathic medicines and she should seek homeopathic treatment. After careful case taking and repertorisation she has was given Lycopodium 1 m. She has dropped the use of anti allergic to once in 15 days in  the just first month of treatment only.

Case 3: A 5 year old girl complaint of urticaria after bathing every day. She was given Bovista 200. And she never got those eruptions back after first dose of the medicine.

Case 4: A 20 year old painter complained of massive and extensive urticarial patches aggravated after eating non vegetarian food, though it appeared everyday multiple times anyway. He was given Antimonium crudum 200. The eruptions have not appeared back after 1 month of treatment, even after eating non vegetarian food.
