Vitiligo (white spots) and Homeopathy

In vitiligo, the pigmentation giving cell of the body called melanocytes are destroyed causing the skin to appear colorless or white. In severe cases, the hair on the area may also turn white. The exact cause of the disease is not known but in some cases family history, local skin allergy, and thyroid autoimmune disease point towards the role of genetics in the disease.

Most patients and attendants worry about the contagiousness of the disease. Vitilogo is non contagious and no one can catch it from vitiligo patient.

Allopathic treatment consist of light therapy and steroid therapy, but most patient don’t benefit from that.

Homeopathy provides safe and effective medicines for vitiligo. Patients show remarkable improvement in most cases after starting homeopathic treatment. Homeopathic Prognosis: In my experience of treating vitiligo for more than 12 years , patients may experience the following symptoms during treatment.

1. Stopping of appearance of new spots – is a good symptoms
2. Decrease in the diameter of the lesion – is a good sign
3. Some patients complaint of itching in a previously non itching patch – is a good sign
4. Appearance of pinkish color in previously white lesion – is a good sign
5. Appearance of black hair (in place of previously white hair of vitiligo lesion) – is a good sign

Many Vitiligo patients are found to be improving after leaving non vegetarian food.

Homeopathic Treatment:

For vitiligo treatment, the patient must consult a qualified homeopath, so that patient specific treatment should be given. Apart from constitutional treatment (i.e patient specific treatment), the following medicines are found to be useful in treating vitiligo:

1. Arsenicum sulphuratum flavum: it improves scaly, itchy white spots in cases which are better by hot water
2. Hydrocotyle: indicated in cases having pricking sensation in spots and facilitates re pigmentation in the spot.
3. Sepia: indicated in moist eruptions which pour out watery fluid.
4. Sulpur: indicated in cases burning when scratched and have sensitive skin.

Homeopathy Point case study: Cured case of Vitilgo

Male patient, aged around 10 years, was suffering from vitiligo for last 2 years. Even after steroid and uv light therapy, the new spots kept on appearing on different parts of the body. After thorough diagnosis and case taking, patient was prescribed constitutional treatment (i.e homeopathic patient specific treatment). The spots started disappearing slowly and cured after 10 months of treatment.
