Treatment of Piles with Homeopathy

Piles is a very common problem faced by almost everyone at least once in lifetime. Yet because of embarrassment attached with it and ignorance of treatment options available, patient continue to suffer for long. In conventional treatment, surgery is advised in most cases yet it fails to yield desired effect.  Recurrence of main complaints after surgery is also common, along with new complications.

Main Symptoms

  • The names ‘hemorrhoids’ (Greek: haima= blood, rhos= flowing) and ‘piles’ (Latin: Pila = balls) are essentially derived from the two main symptoms, respectively bleeding and protrusion.
  • Itching and pain are necessarily expected accompaniments.
  • Mucosal protrusion.
  • Discharge, which can cause soiled underwear.
  • Large piles can cause sensation of incomplete evacuate.

Cause

  • Most common cause is constipation. These days, increased amount of junk foods in our diet has aggravated the problem of constipation, especially among children.
  • Prolonged straining.
  • Pregnancy.
  • Heredity.
  • Aging (due to thinning of supportive tissue).

Management:

  • Simple avoidance of prolonged straining at stool may achieve sufficient symptomatic relief.
  • Most piles respond to conservative therapy such as sitz baths. Here, patient is advised to sit in a tub full of warm water for 5 minutes, twice a day.
  • An increase in dietary fiber. Advised to take seasonal fruit, vegetables and salads rather than juices.
  • Avoid reading or scrolling phones in the lavatory. This can wrongly suggest to body that there is need for a greater straining effort. (Better concentrate on what you are doing!)

Homeopathic Treatment: Homeopathy offers sure, gentler, faster and long lasting treatment of piles. Some of the commonly used homeopathic medicines are:

  • Aesculus hippocastanum: Painful, blind or protruding piles of purplish color which is very sore with aching, burning and itching and a sensation of sticks or splinters in the rectum, rarely bleeding. Bleeding gives relief.
  • Hamamelis virginica: Painless bleeding followed by prostration which is out of all proportion to the blood lost. The blood is of dark color. There is anemia, breathlessness and weakness not withstanding good appetite. Bruised soreness of affected parts.
  • Nitric acid: Hemorrhoids that have ceased to bleed, but very painful and hanging down loosely with sharp pricking pains in rectum. Great straining while passing stool and hemorrhoids that bleeds easily.
  • Paeonia: Hemorrhoids with ulceration, the anus and surrounding parts are purple and covered with crusts. Ulcers within the anus are very painful.
  • Ratania: Aching in rectum as if full of broken glass. Anus burns for hours after stool and feels constricted.
