Viral warts are extremely common and most people suffer from one or more at some point during their life. Warts are a result of infection with DNA human papillomavirus (HPV). Transmission is by direct contact with the virus, either living skin or fragments of shed skin, and is encouraged by trauma and moisture (e.g. in swimming pools, fishmongers etc.)
Main symptoms: Commonly found on hands, face and soles. They may have following symptoms
- Cauliflower, grainy small fleshy growth
- When in palm and soles, they may have flat appearance
- Planter warts are many a times painful.
- Warts can be single, multiple in number. In rare cases, even full body can be covered with warts
Precaution: If you have warts, you need to follow the following instructions:
- Do not touch, pick or cut warts. It may spread the wart.
- Avoid direct contact with warts, even your own warts. As auto infections are common.
- Avoid shaving, if you have warts on face. You can, however, trim with care.
- In case of scalp warts, careful combing of hair and avoiding scrapping of warts is recommended.
Management: Allopathic management of warts includes:
- Salicylic acid: frequent pairing of hyperekeratotic skin. Such treatment needs to continue for at least several months before convincing effects will be apparent.
- Cryotherapy: Using liquid nitrogen. It is accompanied by significant pain, and needs to be repeated at intervals of 2-4 weeks. Over aggressive treatment with cryotherapy, particularly on the hands, can lead to significant complications including tendon rupture and high morbidity over the ensuing days. Comparatively treatment with homeopathic medicines is quick, gentile, safe, and free from after effects
Homeopathic Treatment: Homeopathic medicines offer sure, gentle, faster, long lasting and free from recurrence treatment of warts. Some of the commonly used homeopathic medicines are:
- Antimonium crud: warts grow upon hands. Horn like warts. Planter warts, which are tender on walking
- Causticum: warts with pain and inflammation. Warts large, jagged, bleeding easily, on tip of fingers and nose
